Trekking and Toddlers!
One gorgeous afternoon we had a young family of four stop by to go trekking.  Mom and Dad
shared a llama just in case one of the kids got too tired to lead theirs.

Our treks are about 2 miles long and take just about an hour.  During the trek it became
apparent that Mom had some concerns that her young son, about three years-old, was getting
tired.  She often asked him how he was doing, to which he would always reply, "Just fine, Mom."

Nearing the end of the trek Mom was telling me that just the day before they had hiked the
trails at Copper Falls and that her son had to be carried most of the way.  She said that they
had only walked about a mile and she was amazed that her son had walked the entire trek.
With a stern voice she said to him, "From now on, don't you tell me you're too tired to walk.
You just walked two miles!"

With a  surprisingly sly grin the son looked up at Mom and replied, "Well Mom, I didn't have a
llama to walk, did I?"
The Nay-Sayers!

Opening a new business in a small town can be a rather humbling experience.  People are
never too shy to tell you what they think, whether you want to hear it or not!

On one such occasion, a minister friend was listening to me explain trekking to another person.
When asked if people can ride the llamas I explained that it is not like horse-back riding.  You
lead the llama on a hike through the woods.  My
friend quickly  jumped in, saying..."You want
people to pay you to exercise your llamas for you?  And, I have some swamp land in Florida to
sell you, too!"

After we all had a little chuckle, ha - ha, I proceeded to tell them how gentle llamas are and
how they learn to trust you so quickly.  Treks take on the character of the trekker.  We have
had serene, peaceful treks that are almost spiritual.  We have had romping, stomping hilarious
treks with  people trying to out run, out jump and out maneuver one another...we have never
had a boring trek!

Several weeks later I ran into my minister friend.  He asked how the trekking was going and if I
had sold any swamp land in Florida yet.

Then with only a slight hesitation, he asked, "Do you have any group rates so I can bring the
youth group from church?"   Of course we do...and this won't be a boring trek either!! :)
